In honor of the newest installment of Super Smash Bros. (Literally named “Super Smash Bros.”) We here at All The Coins have decided to do a Top 5 list commemorating our favorites in the series. Now this list will solely be based on how the character is represented in the Super Smash Bros. games, not their actual games. So be prepared for some shocking twists.
This was an obvious choice. Since the original Super Smash Bros. released in 1999, Link hasn’t really changed at all, attack-wise. He has such a wide range of moves that there’s almost no way of stopping him from attacking you. He can set bombs, shoot arrows, has a devastating melee weapon, e.i. THE MASTER SWORD, and to top it off his Super Smash is essentally a One-Hit K.O.
No, this isn’t because I love the Sonic Franchise and yes, we know he’s over-powered but that doesn’t mean he still can’t be on the list! His moves are very balanced and it actually feels like you’re playing as Sonic in his franchise games. The sound effects are a great touch, like when you bounce off the spring for a double jump and hear that satisfying “Boinggg!” The only problem we have with Sonic is the Super Smash they gave him. It can literally kill everyone on the map. Multiple times! Come on Nintendo…
My personal preference, Meta Knight is cruel to whoever dares to get close to him with an infinite slashing ability, and the ability to fly (Thats right, Pit, not even you can escape the wrath). His personality is spot on from the other Kirby games, somehow conveying so much emotion from behind a mask with no words spoken. Truly a classic that hopefully returns in the newest game.
Ike was one of those characters that, if you didn’t pick him and someone else did, you regretted that decision instantly. He can charge his sword fro massive damage and, if played right, can literally kill you before your feet hit the ground. Trust me, I’ve experienced it multiple times. His moves are flashy and his Super Smash is solid as he flips around spewing fire every where and sending you flying off the map and towards your doom.
Before I announce the Number 1 on my list, here’s a few guys that almost made the cut:
Now for what we’ve all been waiting for!
What!? The Princess? This must be some kind of mistake I mean… Oh wait. No. She’s serious. Seriously. Zelda/Sheik is a more terrible twosome the Mario Bros. themselves. Her abilities are so fast and precise that its overwhelming at times trying to deal with her. She agile, can jump higher than most characters and perform deadly combos that either leave you dazed and confused or flying off the screen. Most players don’t choose her simply because her other half is the Princess Zelda we’ve all come to know as the helpless girl who can never save herself but the creators of Super Smash Bros. didn’t see her that way. Zelda can protect herself using a magic shield and cause magical damage to her opponents. Combine this with the ability to turn into Sheik at any moment, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
